Over one crore people to participate in Global Surya Namaskar programme on Makar Sakranti
World will see for the first time, participation of more than a crore people in Global Surya Namaskar programme on the occasion of Makar Sakranti on 14th of January. The Global Surya Namaskar Demonstration programme is being organized by the Ministry of AYUSH under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Minister for AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Surya Namaskar demonstration on Makar Sankranti is more relevant in the current resurgence of COVID-19. Talking to AIR News, Mr Sonowal appealed to people to join hands in the celebration.
Mr Sonowal said, it is a proven fact that Surya Namaskar builds up vitality and immunity and therefore is able to keep Corona at bay. He said, his ministry had set a target of 75 lakh people participating in the programme, but seeing the registration he is hopeful to see more than a crore people’s participation.
Mr. Sonowal said that this program has been launched by the ministry under the direction and guidance of Prime Minister Narender Modi. He added, Prime Minister Modi took an important decision of celebrating International Yoga Day for the benefit of humanity and Surya Namaskar is another step for good health of people across the globe.
All leading Yoga Institutes both from India and abroad, Indian Yoga Association, National Yoga Sports Federation, Yoga Certification Board, FIT India, and many Government and Non Government organizations are participating in this worldwide program. Celebrities and Sports personalities are expected to promote Surya Namaskar through video messages. Players and staff from Sports Authority of India will also participate in the programme.
Participants and Yoga enthusiasts can register themselves on respective portals and will have to upload Videos of performing Surya Namaskar on 14th January. The registration links are available on respective websites and are widely distributed by the Ayush Ministry
