Australian Open: Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas advance to Men’s Singles quarterfinals
Daniil Medvedev of Russia and Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece have advanced to Men’s Singles quarter-finals of Australian open Tennis. Medvedev entered the quarter-finals with a 6-2, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 victory over American player Maxime Cressy.
He will now face Canadian ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who saw off 27th seed Marin Cilic of Croatia in his fourth-round match 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Tsitsipas progressed to the quarter-finals after beating American Taylor Fritz in a five-set epic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 3-6 4-6. Italian 11th seed Jannik Sinner also defeated Australian 32nd seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach his first quarter-final in Melbourne.
Earlier, Rafael Nadal of Spain, Canadian Denis Shapovalov, Italian player Matteo Berrettini and Gaël Monfils of France have also entered the quarter-finals.
And in Women’s singles, two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep is out of the Australian Open, losing in three sets to Alize Cornet. French player Cornet won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of a major for the first time. She will face American 27th seed Danielle Collins for a place in the semi-finals.


Top-ranked Ashleigh Barty’s hopes of ending her Australian Open curse have received a huge boost with World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka sent packing in a stunning upset. Sabalenka took the first set against Kaia Kanepi 7-5 but the Estonian came home strong to win the next two sets 6-2, 7-6 and the match. Barty will clash with 21st seed American Jessica Pegula for a semi-final berth.
In Mixed Doubles, Indian-American pair of Sania Mirza and Rajeev Ram has entered the quarter-finals.
