The country’s sugar production is estimated to have increased by 5.6 percent, to 18.7 million tonnes, during the October to January period of the ongoing marketing year 2021-22, from over the year-ago period, industry body ISMA said on Thursday.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association, sugar production in Uttar Pradesh remained lower at 5 million tonnes, during the October to January period of this marketing year, compared with 5.4 million tonnes in the year-ago period. However, sugar production in Maharashtra rose to 7.3 million tonnes from 6.4 million tonnes.
