383 special courts set up for hearing cases involving crimes against children and minors under POCSO Act: Smriti Irani

Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani has said currently there are 700 fast-track special courts in 27 states and union territories as on 31st December last year.

In a written answer in the Lok Sabha on Friday, she said 383 of the special courts have been set up exclusively for hearing cases involving crimes against children and minors under the POCSO Act.

She said West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar and Arunachal Pradesh are yet to join the central scheme of establishing the special courts.
