Indian skier Arif Khan competes in Giant Slalom event at 2022 Winter Olympics, Slalom to take place on Wednesday
Indian athlete Arif Mohd Khan from Jammu & Kashmir competes in his debut event – the Men’s Giant Slalom race today at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Arif who is 31 years old is the only Indian athlete at the 2022 Winter Olympics will be competing with a total of 89 participants at today’s event. Arif has qualified for the slalom race event also, where he is also scheduled to compete on 16th February. Slalom and Giant slalom are alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline.
He hopes that his participation in Winter Olympics will motivate more youth to take up the winter sports in the country and will help in popularizing and developing the Winter sports in India. India’s Chef De Mission Harjinder Singh told Prasar Bharati Beijing that team has worked hard for this event.
India did not attend the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing after China fielded the regimental commander of the People’s Liberation Army, who was injured during the 2020 military face-off with Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, as a torchbearer for the event’s Torch Relay.
Meanwhile, another Indian athlete Shiva Keshavan who competed in Luge in previous Winter Olympics has been inducted into World Olympians Association’s ‘Olympians for Life Beijing 2022’ hall of fame.
