AIADMK accuses Kerala govt of hampering maintenance works of Mullaperiyar dam

The principal opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has said the Kerala government is hampering the routine maintenance works of even the office and residential quarters of the staff who are managing the Mullaperiyar dam.

In a statement in Chennai yesterday, the party coordinator O.Panneerselvam has said, the truck bound for Thekkady near the dam carrying construction goods has been held by the Kerala officials at the check post saying it requires the permission of its forest department.

He has said the Tamil Nadu Government should voice its concerns to Kerala to allow the maintenance works.

Mullaperiyar dam is situated near the border in Kerala, though it is being maintained by Tamil Nadu as per an interstate agreement to provide water to the drought-prone southern districts in the state.
