TN: Governor has referred anti-NEET bill to Centre for Presidential assent: M.K Stalin
Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi has referred the state-specific anti-NEET bill to the Centre for Presidential assent. Chief Minister M.K Stalin made an announcement in the State Assembly on Wednesday, saying, the Secretary to the Governor has informed over phone that he has sent the bill to the Union Home Ministry. Mr Stalin asked all the parties to give support for the efforts to get the President’s approval for the bill.
The forwarding of the bill has been a bone of contention between the Government and the Raj Bhavan for some time. The bill seeks exemption for the state from holding NEET for undergraduate medical admissions.

It was initially returned by Raj Bhavan to the Assembly Speaker for reconsideration in last February. Immediately, a Special Session of the Assembly was convened and the bill was passed again. Later, voices were raised against the delay in sending the bill to the Centre, by various political parties.
