Kerala’s colourful all temple festival Thrissur Pooram is being celebrated today
The most colourful and spectacular of all temple festivals in Kerala, Thrissur Pooram, is being held today.
Processions of deities from smaller temples in and around Thrissur will converge at the Vadakkumnathan temple this morning, where Lord Shiva is the presiding deity.
This will be followed by Madathil Varavu Panchavadyam, an orchestra involving five instruments and later Ilanjitharamelam, a percussion ensemble, at the temple premises.
The swift, rhythmic change of colourful parasols on caparisoned elephants by Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady temples, one of the highlights of the festival, will be held this evening.
A colourful display of fireworks will follow later in the night.

About 4000 police personnel have been deployed in Thrissur as part of the security arrangements.
The event is being held after a gap of two years due to Covid induced restrictions.
