Maharashtra: Captain Abhilasha Barak became first woman to take charge as a combat helicopter pilot

In Maharashtra, 37 officers including a woman pilot Capt Abhilasha Barak were today awarded the Aviation Wings to become Combat Helicopter Pilots. Capt. Barak has become the first woman to be the Combat Helicopter Pilot. Following rigorous training of the officers, the valedictory function was held today at Gandhi Nagar Airfield at Nashik where Capt. Barak was felicitated for standing first in Pre-Army Pilot Course.

Various other awards were also given to participants for their outstanding performance in various disciplines to acknowledge their achievements. Capt. Ashish was awarded the Silver Cheetah Trophy for standing first in the overall order of merit and Capt. S. K. Sharma for ‘Best in Flying’. Capt. Shravan Manilathaya was awarded the ‘Air Observation Post 35’ trophy for standing first in Ground Subjects and Capt P. K. Gour’s trophy for best Gunnery was awarded to Capt. R. K. Kashyap. The ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar Suri.

Combat Army Aviation Training School is the premier flying training institution of the Indian Army which functions under the aegis of Army Training Command, Shimla. The Aviation Army Corps has completed 35 years and was bestowed with the prestigious President’s Colours by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2019.
