Kerala: 43 lakh saplings will be distributed across the State to mark World Environment Day
43 lakh saplings will be distributed across Kerala to mark the World Environment Day on Sunday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will formally launch the State-wide distribution and observance of environment day in Kannur today.
The saplings have been prepared by the Forest Department in 832 nurseries in the State in association with various agencies.
The task of nurturing the plants for three to five years is estimated to generate 78 lakh job days for workers under the MGNREGS.
The scheme is aimed at facilitating 50 per cent carbon sequestration, mitigating global warming, climate change and natural calamities.
