India’s Neeraj Copra qualifies for his maiden World Athletics Championships final at Oregon in US

India’s Neeraj Chopra qualified for the men’s javelin throw final at World Athletics Championships, in Oregon, USA, with an effort of 88.39 meters. Olympic gold medalist, Chopra sealed his spot in the final with the very first throw in the qualification round. Chopra was the first to throw in Group A of the qualification round. The 24-year-old will now compete in the final, which is set to be held early morning tomorrow.

Along with Neeraj, Rohit Yadav will also be in action in the javelin throw qualifiers. Three triple jump athletes Eldhose Paul, Praveen Chithravel and Abdullah Aboobackar will also be in action today.

A total of 32 javelin throwers will be competing in two qualifying groups. The 12 best athletes will qualify for the final, which will be played tomorrow.

India’s star javelin thrower Annu Rani has already qualified for the final of the Championships after finishing with the best throw of 59.60 meters in her third and final attempt. The national record holder made it to her second successive javelin final at the Championship.
