4 Congress MPs suspended from Lok Sabha for rest of Monsoon session for disrupting proceedings

Four Congress Members have been suspended for the remaining part of the Monsoon session from the Lok Sabha for their unruly behaviour in the House. The Chair took the names of T N Pratapan, Manickam Tagore, Jyothi Mani and Ramya Haridas for disrespectfully showing placards towards the chair.

The Parliamentary Affairs minister proposed to suspend the four members for the rest of the session. Before suspending the members, the chair repeatedly urged the agitating members to resume their seats to take part in the proceedings of the House.

Earlier, the Congress-led opposition members trooped into the well of the House soon after the House met at 3 PM after the first adjournment. They raised slogans against the government and displayed placards. Amidst the din, the chair took up urgent matters of public importance to the members.

When repeated appeals from the chair to take part in the proceedings and go back to their seats, were unheeded by the agitating members, the chair initiated for suspension of the four members. Immediately after that, the Chair adjourned the house for the day.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has alleged that the opposition is deliberately disrupting the proceedings of both houses in the Parliament. Talking to the media outside the Parliament, Mr. Goyal said that the government is ready to discuss all important issues including price rise from the very first day, but the opposition is running away from it.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi reiterated that the government is ready to discuss the issues of price rise and GST hike in the Parliament. Talking to media outside the Parliament¸ Mr. Joshi said he personally had words with senior Congress leaders for unlocking the deadlock and smooth functioning of the House.

He said, the government has taken various steps to keep inflation under control. He accused opposition-ruled states of not reducing taxes on petroleum products. The Minister said, the opposition is running away from the discussion because it is afraid of being exposed in both houses.
