NABARD, AP Regional Office organized State level Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting on ‘Promotion of Handicrafts – Issues related to Marketing’ at Hotel Lemon Tree Premier, Vijayawada today to explore, identify and analyze the potentials, areas of convergence in off farm sector through discussion with various stake holders/ institutions/ channelpartners, focusing the various constraints in marketing of handicrafts and suitable interventions required to tackle them.
The meeting was chaired by Shri M R Gopal, CGM, NABARD, APRO and appealedall the stakeholders to have convergence for the development of handicrafts and betterment of artisans/ craftsmen.
The programme was attended by Shri N S Murthy, GM, NABARD; Shri E Raja Babu, Co-ordinator, SLBC; Smt, Jhansi Rani, PIC, Andhra Pradesh State C0operative Bank (APStCB); Smt. B. Vijayalakshmi, Chairperson, AP Handicrafts Development Corporation; Smt. G. Padmavathi, Director, SERP, Govt. of AP, officials from KVIC, APSSDC, SIDBI, District Forest Department, Channel partners etc.
Shri N S Murthy while giving his welcome address briefed the participants about the conceptof RAC meeting and its intended purposes. He also deliberated upon the theme and stressed upon the need for supporting the craftsmen and artisans to let them realize the rightful remuneration.
Shri M R Gopal emphasized upon the importance of the meeting and pointed out the plight of the craftsmen who are the bottom of the industrial pyramid. He stressed upon the importance of handicrafts in the MSE sector and called for skill development of artisans. He opined on the gradual withering away of such traditional crafts and the imperative need of reviving the,
Other invitees who spoke on various aspects were Shri E Raja Babu;Smt, Jhansi Rani; Smt. B. Vijayalakshmi; Smt. G. Padmavathi; Smt. Kranti Kumari, Finance Officer, APSSDC; District Forest Officer, NTR and members from KVIC, NGOs and other societies. The issue of practical difficulties faced during marketing of handicrafts was taken up. Measures that could be taken to smoothen the marketing process were broadly discussed and deliberated upon.
