HM Amit Shah to kick start year-long celebrations of Liberation of Hyderabad in Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be kick-starting the year-long Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations in three States of Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra later this morning. He will be hoisting the national flag and reviewing the parade by the paramilitary forces at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

The Union Minister will lay a wreath at the Martyrs Memorial and garland the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. About 12 hundred artists from the three states will be presenting colourful cultural programmes showcasing the rich heritage of the region.

People of the then Hyderabad Princely state got liberated from the tyrannic rule of Nizam over a year after India attained independence, on this day in 1948 through a police action called “Operation Polo”, initiated by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy informed media that Karnataka and Maharashtra governments have been celebrating the ‘Liberation Day’ for many years however the Telangana government or the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh governments have not done it.

The Minister informed that the celebrations are now being taken up under the aegis of the Culture Ministry. He further said he personally invited the chief ministers of all the three States and the public representatives including ministers, MPs, MLAs and sarpanches to participate in the events.

Mr Reddy also informed that about 15 hundred erstwhile freedom fighters and their families, eminent personalities and ex-servicemen have been invited for the event. A photo exhibition has been organised at the venue depicting liberation of the then Hyderabad.

On the other hand, Telangana Government is celebrating three-day Telangana National Integration Day Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The celebrations began across the state yesterday by holding public rallies.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will be hoisting the National Flag later this morning and he will address a public meeting in the evening. The government has declared a general holiday to all government offices and educational institutions.
