The monarch’s coffin from Westminster Hall will be moved to nearby Westminster Abbey ahead of the funeral to allow Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral to take place at Westminster Abbey.
The Church of London played an important role in the life of Queen Elizabeth II. Ceremonial processions leading the Queen’s coffin to Westminster Abbey and then to her burial site in Windsor have become part of the oldest traditions of the British monarchy.
Soldiers wearing bear hats. Members of the Queen’s royal family also took part in the procession, with members of the royal family led by King Charles III. Pipers and drummers from Scottish and Irish regiments and the Brigade of Gurkhas, made up of soldiers from Nepal, were also part of the procession. Around 6,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen of the British Armed Forces took part in the procession.
World leaders joined King Charles III and the British royal family to bid farewell to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Her funeral will be the first in the UK in more than half a century since British Prime Minister Winston Churchill became the last head of state to receive the honor in 1965.
The UK’s longest-serving monarch died on Thursday last week after a 70-year reign. Ahead of the funeral, President Draupadi Murmu met King Charles III at a reception hosted by the king at Buckingham Palace – and offered his condolences.
