Telangana: Forest officer Srinivasa Rao killed in tribal attack in Kothagudem: Minister IK Reddy condoles
According to forest officials, the incident took place when a forest ranger tried to stop migrant Gutti Koya tribals from cutting trees in the plantation.
On Tuesday, a range officer of the forest department was killed in an attack by Guthikoya tribesmen at Errabodu plantation at Bendalapadu village of Chandrugonda mandal in Kottagudem.
Ranger Srinivas Rao, who was bleeding profusely on his head, was shifted to Chandrugonda Government Hospital for treatment.
Later he died of severe injuries. Officials said the incident took place when a forest ranger tried to stop the migrant Guthikoya tribals from cutting trees in the plantation.
IK Reddy condoled the death of Srinivasa Rao and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. He assured that strict action will be taken against those who have committed illegalities and encroachment of forest lands will not be tolerated.
He said that the state government is committed to solving the problem of waste lands and will take action accordingly. The minister said in a statement here that the attack on a forest officer on duty is highly intolerable and action will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
Forest department officials also condemned the attack
“This is a very sad and unfortunate incident. “We strongly condemn the attack on the forest officer Chandrugonda Srinivasa Rao FRO, who works very hard and with integrity,” said TSSFS Officers Association General Secretary M. Raja Ramana Reddy.
He said that Srinivasa Rao had recently won the KVS Babu Gold Medal for his outstanding services in controlling the encroachment of reserve forest lands.
