Sumit Deb Director (Personnel) of NMDC Limited seems to charge as CMD of NMDC today. In place of Baijendra Kumar (IAS) is serving as the CMD but he set to superannuate on July 31.
Earlier the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sumit Deb as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NMDC Limited on July 20th.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sumit Deb as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NMDC Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel, on July 20. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Deb has been appointed as CMD of NMDC Limited with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after August 1, till the date of his superannuation i.e. February 28, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Currently, Baijendra Kumar (IAS) is serving as the CMD but he set to superannuate on July 31.
Earlier, globalgreenews had reported that Deb was recommended for the post of CMD of NMDC on February 18. He was selected from a list of eight candidates who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel. Currently, Dev is serving as Director (Personnel) in the steel ministry PSU.
As CMD of NMDC Limited, Deb will bethe Director (Personal), chief executive of the corporation and will be accountable to its board of directors and the government. He also will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the Corporation, and for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
Sumit Deb has assumed charge as Director (Personnel) of NMDC Limited a Schedule “A” Government of India Enterprise, with Navratna Status, under the Ministry of Steel on 01st September 2019.
Deb is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneshwar. Before assuming charge of Director (Personnel), NMDC, Deb was Executive Director (Personnel & Administration) at NMDC and was heading functions of Personnel, Human Resource Development, Rajbhasha, Administration, etc of the Company.
Deb started his career with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) as Management Trainee and worked with RINL for about 25 years accumulating rich and diverse experience in the steel industry. He has worked in different regions of the country, dealing with heterogeneous mix of both external as well as Internal customers and handling all domains of HR such as Manpower Planning, succession planning, training & development, etc.
He is a thorough and Hardworking Professional with the desirable aptitude required to be an effective Human Resource Professional. He has diverse experience in the field of Human Resources as well as Marketing and distribution of Steel & Iron ore, Sponge iron, pellets, and Diamonds. He has demonstrated his performance capabilities by achieving various milestones along his career path. He was awarded Jawahar Purushkar in the year 2007 – 08 by CMD, RINL for his outstanding performance.
NMDC Limited, previously known as National Mineral Development Corporation, is a state-controlled mineral producer. It is owned 72.43 percent by the government and is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel.
